Be Happy.. Be Unconventional..
We would like to throw a very straightforward question at you – Are you Happy? You should not think much; just say whatever comes to your mind at this very instant. Your answer may define the current state of your mind.
Well, frankly speaking, we expect that most of you are still figuring it out whether you are happy or not! And, believe me, it is completely normal. Those who have a definite answer may start pondering over the reason for their current state of being. If you are happy, you can think about why you are happy? and if you feel otherwise – what may be the possible reason for that?
Happiness is subjective. Every person finds contentment in different things. Some get it from money, some need fame, some need appreciation for their work, and some need power. All of us usually seek happiness in various external factors and we do find happiness as well but it is always temporary. It is not a long term solution and thus we are continuously seeking happiness in the outside world.
However, it is very crucial to note that happiness is a choice. It is not to be sought from external sources. No one other than you can make yourself happy. It is just a misconception that we feel happy when we get what we expect or desire. Our expectations and desires are created in our own mind and depending on the outcome we get happy. It is like setting a bar for happiness and if the bar is crossed then only we are allowed to be happy. Let me explain this – There was a friend of mine who never had the courage to speak in front of public. Whenever he used to hold the microphone in front of the public, a chill went through his spine and he used to forget whatever he had prepared. He was so determined to get out of his nutshell that he enrolled himself for a National Level Paper Presentation Competition. To everyone’s surprise, he did pretty well for a first-timer. He had just fumbled a bit in the middle, that’s it, rest was amazing and he was adjudged Second Runner-Up for the presentation. We were happy for him and were appreciating the fact that he did so well in his very first presentation, but you know what, he was sad. Everyone was appreciating his technique of delivering the presentation and yet he was unhappy about the fumbles he had made. That is the choice that he made. Instead of enjoying the moment of overcoming his fear, he decided to feel bad about something which no one else actually remembered but him.
This is the exact mistake that we commit in our respective lives. Instead of accepting the good in our life, we are too much bothered about small things that don’t go well enough. We are always in search of happiness in the extrinsic world – in a job, in a spouse, in a family, in a title, in a house, etc. As a result, happiness is constantly out of our control and is like an eternally moving aim that never stands still long enough for us to grasp it. We want you to ‘Be Happy’ because ‘Happiness is a state of being and not a perpetual target for chasing.’ The day you start choosing happiness instead of chasing it, you’ll get out of the league of conventional and move a lot closer to becoming an unconventional.
