The Most Important Thing in Life
Hey guys! Thank you for visiting La Outre’. We are very excited to express our thoughts with the world and if our thoughts, beliefs, ideas, concepts, perception, interpretation or anything for that matter resonates with you or makes a positive impact in your life or at least seems thought-provoking then we believe that we are on the right track. We are all set to pull you out of the rat race and guide you through your life.
Before we start this unconventional journey, we must pause for a moment and think, “What is the most important thing in life?” The answers that might pop in your mind are Happiness, Satisfaction, Success, Love, Family, Friends, Health, Wealth, etc. Well! You are not wrong. All of these are really important aspects of life and we are always in pursuit of at least one of these. However, we need to understand that all these things are actually the outcomes of ‘the most important thing’.
Dude! You mean to say that there is something more important than “happiness”, there is something more significant than ‘satisfaction’ or ‘success’?
Yes, that’s right, the most important thing in life is not what we think. I know! I know! You are perplexed and are thinking, ‘what could be the most important thing in life?’
We’ll tell you the answer. In fact, we could have told you the answer right away, but then you would lose the excitement of discovering the answer on your own. So, we have a plan. Let’s just dive a little deeper in our mind and try to understand happiness and satisfaction.
Satisfaction paves way for happiness
So, Happiness is a state of mind which is often experienced when you reach certain levels of joyfulness or certain exuberance of life. And, Satisfaction is a sense of contentment attained due to fulfilment of one’s wishes, expectations or needs. That means Happiness is the state of pleasure or contentment that we reach when we are satisfied with a certain level of achievement, good fortune, etc and are not wishing for more.
Suppose, you are awaiting the results of an examination that you took last week and it was one of the toughest subjects of your entire curriculum. You worked really hard for the exam but you are worried about how the results would turn out. When the results are out, you are surprised to know that you topped the exam with a blazing 95%. How would you feel at that particular moment? Well! 98% of those who are reading this post would be extremely delighted, happy and ecstatic. They would throw up a party and celebrate their achievement with friends and family. But slowly the happiness meter goes down and they are in pursuit of something which will make them happier.
On the other hand, 2% of the public would curse themselves for losing 5% marks. They are totally dissatisfied and are unable to enjoy what they have achieved. You would say that these people are crazy; they should have enjoyed their achievement, they should have been satisfied, and they should learn to live in the moment.
Anyways, let me change your perspective a bit. What if it was your favourite subject and you always used to score 97-98% in that particular subject and were actually aiming for a 100%. Would you be happy with 95%? You may have topped the exam, however at a subconscious level, you are not satisfied with what you have achieved, and you don’t feel the exuberance too. It means our happiness depends on our level of satisfaction, and our satisfaction depends on something too. That ‘something’ is the most important thing in our life.
What we actually want?
Today’s fast-paced lifestyle is such that we don’t even have the time to think about what we actually want? We are constantly running behind, success, fame, money, power, etc that we have stopped thinking about ourselves, our happiness, and our satisfaction. We set a goal and with our sheer perseverance and smart work, we achieve the goal too. Now, just think, will you set the same goal which you have already achieved? Even if you set the same goal, would you feel the same level of excitement or contentment when you achieve it? No, not at all! Why is it so? What has changed? Your goal was same, your efforts were same, your achievements were same, you were also the same; then why did the level of happiness or satisfaction drop?
The reason is that you were not the same. That’s right, there was a change that had taken place at an inner level; you had grown from your previous self and your conscience knows that. We always seek ‘Personal Growth or personal development’, and that is indeed the most important thing in life.
Even if we aim to be successful, to be happy, to have a great relationship or to be healthy, all these things can only satisfy us if we are growing on a personal level. Growing from our previous self to our better self is the only thing that is making us feel happy and content.
Does this feel like some kind of revelation? Don’t worry, we are here to break it down for you so that you can understand this concept and work towards a better life or we should say ‘grow’ towards a better life.
Keep learning, Keep growing
Everyone wants to reach a happier state in life. It means that we are looking for growth in our happiness meter as well. That is the only reason that we set harder goals each time we achieve something because achieving the same goal again wouldn’t raise your state of happiness.
You must have seen people who seem to have everything: money, success, fame, family, love, etc but still are not happy in life. Why is it so? The only reason is that they feel that there is some kind of stagnancy in their lives; they know that they are not growing, in terms of whatever standards they have set for themselves.
We believe that you are getting our point that everyone is in pursuit of growth which in turn leads them to a state of extreme happiness. An artist wants growth in his skills, a businessman wants growth in his business, an athlete wants to improve his fitness, a politician is looking for more supporters, a travelling enthusiast wants to travel more, whatever you are passionate about you are always looking for growth in that particular field.
So the crux of your happiness or satisfaction is your personal development. Every successful human being is a student of life, they have been a very keen learner throughout their life which led them to their personal development. So be a student of life and dedicate yourself to learn something new every day.
However, remember one thing: You are not competing with others, you are competing with yourself. You have to get better every day, you have to set new standards for yourself, and you have to upgrade yourself every day, only then you will be able to grow.
We wish you all the best on your journey of personal development.
